Who this article is for
Lot owners and committee members who’ve created a Cohabit account
Owners who want to find their building so they can connect their lot or request a Health Score
What happens when you search for a building?
Searching for your building in Cohabit lets you:
Find the correct strata scheme (not individual houses)
Open the Building Profile page for that building
From there, either:
Request a Health Score for the building, or
Submit a lot connection request (connect your ownership to a specific lot)
Both paths are ways of “connecting” to that building in Cohabit.
How building search works
You can only search for strata buildings, not standalone houses.
You can search by:
Building address, or
Strata plan (SP) number (if you know it).
If the property doesn’t have a strata plan (SP), it won’t appear in Cohabit search.
Step 1 – Open the building search
Log in to Cohabit.
Click My Buildings from the main menu.
Click Search for a building or Add building (wording may vary).
(Screenshot: My Buildings with a “Search / Add building” button)
Step 2 – Search by address or SP number
In the search bar, start typing either:
The building’s street address, or
The SP number (e.g. SP 12345).
Wait for the matching buildings to appear in the dropdown/list.
Click the building that matches your scheme.
(Screenshot: search field with address/SP typed, list of building matches)
If you’re not sure which is yours, check:
Suburb and postcode
SP number
Any building name shown
Step 3 – Open the Building Profile
After selecting your building:
You’ll land on the building’s Building Profile, usually on the Overview tab.
From here you can:
See an overview of the building
Scroll to find Your apartments (for owner connections)
See the Health Score area (if available)
(Screenshot: Building Profile / Overview)
Step 4 – Choose how you want to connect
Once you’ve opened the building, there are two main things owners typically do:
A) Connect your lot (tell Cohabit which apartment you own)
You have two ways to start a lot connection:
Way 1 – From the Building Profile
On the Overview tab, scroll to Your apartments.
Click Add new lot.
Enter your lot number, ownership details, and any requested info.
Submit your request so a Cohabit admin can review and approve it.
Way 2 – Using the + shortcut
Click the + button in the top-right of the screen.
Select Connect to a Lot from the menu.
Search for the building you live in, then choose your lot.
Complete the same lot details and submit.
Both paths end up in the same lot connection flow.
Once approved, your Cohabit account will be linked to that lot.

B) Request a Building Health Score
If you want a quick, high-level view of how your building is tracking:
On the Building Profile, find the Building Health Score section.
If no score exists, click Request Health Score.
Confirm that you’re an Owner and fill in any details requested.
You can optionally add a paid Expert Report to get written expert commentary, but the Health Score itself is free.
➡️ More detail: Requesting a Building Health Score (Owners)
Which should I do first?
If you already own a lot and want Cohabit to recognise your ownership and act on your behalf →
Connect your lot (via Your apartments → Add new lot or + → Connect to a Lot).If you mainly want a quick assessment of building health →
Request a Health Score, and consider an Expert Report later.
Hint: Over time, most owners end up doing both.
FAQs
Q: I searched but my building doesn’t appear – what now?
Check that:
It’s a strata building (not a standalone house)
The address and suburb are correct
You’ve tried searching by SP number if you know it
If it still doesn’t appear:
Use any “Can’t see your building?” prompt if shown, or
Contact Cohabit Support using the chat bubble (bottom-right of the screen) with:
Building address
SP number (if known)
Q: Does searching for a building connect me to it automatically?
No. Searching just opens the building.
You become “connected” when you:
Submit a lot connection request via Your apartments → Add new lot, and/or
Request a Health Score or Expert Report for that building.
Q: Can I search for a building I don’t own in yet?
Yes. You can search and open buildings you’re considering buying in, then:
Request a Health Score, and
(If you’re a buyer) order an Expert Report to get deeper insight.
