Who this article is for
Lot owners and committee members who own in a strata building
Owners who have just signed up and are prompted to add their apartment
Owners who want to add another apartment later
What does “claiming your apartment” mean?
Claiming your apartment connects a specific apartment (lot) to your Cohabit account.
This allows Cohabit to:
Recognise you as an owner for that apartment
Show apartment-level details (ownership, tenancy, notices)
Link building-level information (Health Score, insights, records) to your ownership
Enable owner features such as Building Intelligence, notifications and payments
Claiming an apartment is how Cohabit moves from:
“You’re viewing a building”
to
“This apartment belongs to you.”
When you can claim an apartment
You can claim an apartment in three places:
Immediately after signing up as an owner,
From the Apartments section at any time, or
When looking at a building in Research
There is no separate request or approval step — once you enter your details, the apartment is connected automatically.
How to claim your apartment
Step 1 — Open the Add apartment screen
You’ll see the Add your apartment screen either:
Straight after completing owner sign-up, or
By going to Apartments and selecting Add apartment
Step 2 — Enter your apartment details
On the Add apartment screen, you’ll be asked to enter:
Apartment address
Apartment number
Occupancy status (Owner-occupied or Rented)
This information is used to:
Match your apartment to the correct building
Set up the right owner experience for you
Step 3 — Add your apartment
Click Add apartment.
Your apartment is immediately connected to your account.
You’ll see a confirmation message letting you know the connection was successful, with options to:
View My Apartments, or
Add another apartment
What happens after your apartment is connected
Once your apartment is connected, you’ll have access to:
The My Apartments tab, where you can view and manage your apartment details
Building-level tabs found in Research, including:
Overview
Building Snapshot
Expert Insights (where available)
These tabs show building-wide information, while My Apartments focuses on your specific apartment within that building.
Adding more apartments later
If you own more than one apartment:
Go to Apartments
Select Add apartment
Repeat the same steps
Each apartment is tracked separately but linked to the same building profile.
A note on apartment vs lot numbers
In most cases, your apartment number is enough to connect correctly.
If your building uses different lot numbering behind the scenes, Cohabit handles that mapping automatically.
FAQs
Is this a request that needs approval?
No. Adding an apartment connects it immediately.
What if I enter the wrong apartment number?
You can update or remove the apartment later, or contact Cohabit Support for help.
Can buyers also add apartments later?
Yes. Buyers who later become owners can add their apartment once ownership is confirmed.
Do I need to upload documents to add an apartment?
No documents are required during this step.
