Connecting to your lot

Tell Cohabit which apartment/lot you own so we can act on your behalf.

Updated this week

Who this article is for

  • Owners and committee members who already own in a strata building

  • Owners who have found their building in Cohabit and now want to connect their lot

What does “connecting to your lot” mean?

A lot connection request (also called “requesting a lot”) tells Cohabit:

  1. Which specific lot/apartment you own in the building

  2. That you’re authorising Cohabit (and, where relevant, a strata expert) to

    • Inspect strata records on your behalf, and

    • Use those records to update your building data, insights and Health Score

It’s how Cohabit moves from:

“We know which building you’re looking at”
to
“We know which lot in that building belongs to you.”

You can start this request in two ways:

  1. From your Building Profile → Your apartments → Add new lot

  2. From the + button in the top-right → Connect to a Lot

Before you start

Make sure you have:

  • Found your building in Cohabit (see Searching for your building)

  • Any helpful documents handy, such as:

    • A levy notice

    • A rates notice
These can help confirm your ownership and lot details if needed.

Option 1 – Connect from your Building Profile (Your apartments)

Step 1 – Open your building

  1. Log in to Cohabit.

  2. Click My Buildings.

  3. Click the building you own in to open its Building Profile (Overview tab).

Step 2 – Go to “Your apartments”

On the Overview tab:

  • Scroll until you see the Your apartments section.

  • This shows any lots already linked to you and an Add new lot button.

Step 3 – Click Add new lot

  1. Click Add new lot.

  2. A window opens for you to enter your lot details.

Step 4 – Enter your lot and ownership details

Fill in the fields such as:

  • Lot number

  • Owner name and contact details

  • Purchase information (e.g. settlement date / basic contract info)

  • Tenant details (if applicable)

This information helps Cohabit verify that you own that lot and match you to the correct record.

💡 If you’re unsure about lot vs apartment numbers, see
“What’s the difference between a lot number and an apartment number?”

Step 5 – Submit your lot connection request

  1. Review your details.

  2. Click Submit / Save.

Your request is sent to Cohabit for review (see “What happens next” below).

Option 2 – Connect via the + button (top-right shortcut)

You can also start a lot connection from anywhere in the owner view using the + button.

Step 1 – Open the + menu

  1. While logged in as an owner, look at the top-right of the screen.

  2. Click the + button.

  3. A menu appears with options such as:

    • Connect to a Lot

    • General Request

    • By-Law Request

    • Key Request

    • Pet Request

(Screenshot: + menu showing “Connect to a Lot” at the top)

Step 2 – Select Connect to a Lot

  1. Click Connect to a Lot.

  2. A Connect to a Lot modal will appear over the page.

You’ll see a search field where you can:

  • Search for the building you live in, then

  • Select the lot you own.

Once you select the building and lot, you’ll be taken into the same lot connection flow used in Option 1, where you confirm your ownership details and submit the request.

What happens after you submit

After you submit a lot connection (via either path):

  1. A Cohabit admin reviews the details you provided.

  2. They check that your information matches the official records for that lot.

  3. They will either:

    • Approve your lot connection, or

    • Deny it if the details don’t align, or more information is needed.

If your request is approved

  • Your Cohabit profile is now connected to that specific lot.

  • Cohabit can treat you as an authorised owner when:

    • Inspecting strata records on your behalf, and

    • Updating your building’s data, insights and Health Score.

If your request is denied

  • You’ll usually be told why (e.g. details don’t match existing ownership records).

  • You may be asked to provide supporting documents (e.g. levy notice, front page of contract) or submit corrected details.

What you can do once your lot is connected

After approval, you can:

  • See your lot under Your apartments in the building’s Overview.

  • Support Cohabit Building Intelligence and record inspections with clear authority.

  • (Where supported) track levies and notices through Cohabit.

  • Get more accurate Health Scores and building insights linked to your actual ownership.

FAQs

Q: Which way is better – from the building, or from the + button?
They’re equivalent. Use:

  • Building Profile → Your apartments if you’ve already opened your building, or

  • + → Connect to a Lot if you want a quick shortcut from anywhere in the owner view.

Q: What if I don’t see my lot in the dropdown?
Look for an “I can’t find my lot” option (if available) or contact Cohabit Support via the chat bubble with your:

  • Building address

  • Lot number

  • Apartment number

  • Supporting document (e.g. levy notice)

Q: Can I connect more than one lot?
Yes. Repeat the process for each lot you own, using either Your apartments → Add new lot or the + → Connect to a Lot shortcut.
